Navigating Machu Picchu - a Short Guide

Planning to visit Machu Picchu or just thinking about it?  Last year I published this short book, with blank pages for your own notes, which is exactly what you need. Based on two trips to Machu Picchu and several others to Peru plus extensive research, you will have in your hand--or on your tablet--a self-directed guide to Machu Picchu. Even if you expect to have a tour guide, this book will prepare you for the visit and enrich your experience once you are in "the lost city of the Incas." Also included is information about traveling by train to Aguas Calientes, the village at the base of the mountain on which Machu Picchu sits and hiking the Inca trail--the only other way to get there. Useful information about Aguas Calientes, including lodging, shopping, and points of interest complete this short, notebook sized guide.

Navigating Machu Picchu (2014) is available in hard or soft cover or as an ebook at: http://www.blurb.com/b/5597244-navigating-machu-picchu

To whet your appetite, some scenes from this most iconic of Inca sites:

The Temple of the Sun, with the Urubamba River at the bottom.

One of two "solar clocks" still surviving (the other is at Pisaq, near Cusco),the Intihuatana is a sacred ceremonial site where prayers are still said to the Sun on the winter solstice in June.

 REVIEWS:

Fortunate are the travelers who have access to this compact new guide to Machu Picchu.... Our recent trip would have benefited by tips on navigating the terrain at Machu Picchu, informing the traveler about steep inclines in advance, and charting the best routes for spectacular views. Importantly, there is information on the village of Aguas Calientes, the transport hub and jumping off point for Machu Picchu where most travelers will spend a night due to train schedules and bookings.  Readers will appreciate tips on local monuments, hotels, shopping and restaurants.

This guide is informative and easy to understand--especially when I realized that you are writing for everyone....not just a target audience.  If you are looking for a concise, transportable and printable guide to Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes, this is the book for you.

A superb job! I wish I'd read it before I visited there myself!  I especially liked the tour through the town with your added comments. You did a great job helping put prices and sizes in perspective; i.e., US$ equivalents and feet vs. metres.

Thank you, Tommie Sue Montgomery, for taking me to Machu Picchu. This concise guide offers practical information and advice regarding transportation and hotel options for various legs of the trip; financial considerations; and input about hiking/fitness levels for strenuous parts of the journey.  In addition it offers glimpses of breathtaking views of the Lost City, which you can behold from numerous vantage points.  Read this guide while planning your trip, and while experiencing one of the world's seven wonders.
